May 7, 2015: Microchip Technology Incorporated (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, and Micrel, Incorporated (NASDAQ: MCRL) today announced that Microchip has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Micrel. Micrel, Inc., and its subsidiaries, specialize in the design, development, manufacturing, and marketing of analog, mixed-signal, and digital semiconductor devices across North America, Asia, and Europe. Their product range encompasses various categories such as power conversion, supervisory and reference products, general linear parts, radio frequency data communication products, system timing, clock generation and distribution products, high-speed physical media devices, fiber optic modules, physical layer transceivers, media access controllers, switches, application-specific standard products, and system-on-a-chip products. Additionally, they offer custom analog and mixed-signal circuits, as well as custom and foundry services including silicon wafer fabrication and integrated circuit assembly and testing for customers in the communications, consumer, automotive, and military sectors. Micrel, Inc., founded in 1978 and headquartered in San Jose, California, became a subsidiary of Microchip Technology Inc. on August 3, 2015. Their products find applications in mobility, enterprise/cloud infrastructure, wireline communications, and industrial and automotive markets.
