Potter and Brumfield

potter-brumfield TE Connectivity acquired the Potter and Brumfield product line from Siemens AG in the fall of 1999. Tyco acquired Siemens Electromechanical Components GmbH & Co. KG from Siemens for $1.1 billion. P&B was a unit of Siemens EC, which at the time had sales in excess of $800 million. Potter & Brumfield's general-purpose relay operations, which include engineering, manufacturing, and marketing, were integrated into Tyco Electronics, and are run out of Tyco's Winston-Salem, N.C., plant.

TE Connectivity P&B, formerly Tyco Electronics Potter & Brumfield (P&B) serves many industries, including appliance, HVAC, industrial control, computer peripheral, and security. P&B offers a variety of relays and circuit breakers to meet yTE's specifications. Electromechanical, solid state and time delay relays for PC board and panel/plug-in mounting. Thermal and magnetic circuit breakers.

To TE Connectivity, the integration of the Potter & Brumfield product line was intended to improve manufacturing support and rapid improvement in available products, including medium power relays, power relays and signal relays.

TE Connectivity's Potter & Brumfield (P&B) brand offers electromechanical, solid state and time delay relays for PC board and panel/plug-in mounting. Potter & Brumfield (P&B) products serve many industries, including appliance, HVAC, industrial control, computer peripheral, and security.

Potter & Brumfield Relays for appliances, HVAC, and industrial controls

TE's Potter & Brumfield portfolio includes different types of relays and contactors as well as circuit breakers. TE's components consist of thermal and magnetic types, protecting equipment across multiple application settings. TE's Potter & Brumfield general purpose relays are used in appliances, HVAC, and industrial control systems.

Brumfield RelaysTE's Potter & Brumfield solid state relays (SSRs) are designed for industrial applications, where silent, fast and long electrical life in switching is required.  These are used in heating, power, lighting and motion applications. TE's SSRs can operate with very low operating times (make/bounce) with practically no limit on number of switching cycles. These are best suited for fast and high switching cycle requirements. TE's solid state relays offer a longer electrical life since they do not contain any moving parts. TE's SSRMP mini-puck series will add a panel mount option to the SSR range of products.

With load ratings ranging from 10/16/25 AMP @ 240/480VAC, unlimited number of switching operations, added along with the ability of high speed switching prevents interference of external signals. The compact size provides customers space saving options and quick connect terminals offer easy installation. To limit the part numbers based on input voltage conditions, SSRMP input side is standard (4-32VDC)  across all output ranges.

Potter & Brumfield Inc. (P&B) is the leading manufacturer of electronic relays devices that control the flow of electric current in the United States. Vital components in a wide range of products, relays are found in small appliances, automobiles, furnaces and air conditioners, and vending machines. P&B also designs and markets timers, connectors, circuit breakers, input/output modules, and other mechanisms necessary in the transmission of electric power. P&B became known in the industry for its contributions to new relay and switching device technology. Among the company's innovations were the first magnetic latching relay, the first snap switches for television sets, and the only all-solid-state polarized telegraph relay, which replaced its electromechanical predecessor. P&B also produced the first military and aerospace relays capable of resisting large shocks and vibrations; as a result, virtually all space vehicles through the 1980s were equipped with P&B relays.

Tyco International Ltd. acquired Potter & Brumfield from Siemens AG in 2000 for $1.1 billion, but promised to maintain its current distribution roster. Potter & Brumfield's general-purpose relay operations, which include engineering, manufacturing, and marketing, are being integrated into Tyco Electronics, and will be run out of Tyco's Winston-Salem, N.C., plant.
