Venkel surface mount (SMD) safety certified capacitors are specifically designed for interference-suppression AC line filtering applications. When comparing to radial leaded disc capacitors, the CAS surface mount form factor provides engineers the ability to miniaturize their designs with a higher density solution. Having internationally recognized safety certifications, these capacitors are well-suited for applications that require keeping potentially disruptive or damaging line transients and EMI out of susceptible equipment. Safety Certified Capacitors are designed for surge or lightning immunity in modem facsimile and other equipment. Multilayer ceramic capacitors commonly adhere to an industry-wide standard, typically supplied with a DC rating. However, for AC applications, Surge and Safety capacitors with a 250Vac AC rating have been accessible. Nevertheless, their capacitance range is often restricted due to stringent impulse and VP requirements set by international standards. Syfer Technology has pioneered a range of capacitors addressing this challenge. These capacitors are suitable for usage at up to 250Vac 60Hz continuously and cater to non-safety-critical applications requiring extended capacitance ranges.

Safety Capacitors have designations of X or X/Y. The X designation is used in "line to line" circuit applications in which a failure would not result in electrical shock. The Y designation refers to "line to ground" circuit applications where failure and loss of the ground connection could result in electrical shock. The X/Y designation refers to products that have been certified for use in either "line to line" or "line to ground" applications.
